Assignment 2: Relief Sculpture Due: Tuesday Jan 27

To make a Relief Piece - Size is optional (Either high or low)

Frontal View

Draw drawings and plan it out!!

Build it out of cardboard, foam core or styrofoam

Assignment Due: Tuesday, January 27.

I have foam core at school you can use*

Notes from Lecture:

Surface Relief: physically pushing or pulling the two dimensional picture plane into the third dimension of actual space.

Terms:

Bas Relief = Low relief (pronounced - Bah Relief)
Haut Relief = High relief (prounouned - Hah Relief)

To consider:  In 2D processes  the 3 dimensional appearance of form is controlled largely by rendering differences in value (value = relative light and dark).  In Relief Sculpture or Full round Sculpture depth and modeling of form hinges upon the artists ability to control how actual light (and its inverse-shadow) play across surface of relief or sculpture.

When building a Relief Sculpture think abstract and texture in this assignment!

Remember this is one-sided work - where the visual interest is sought and experienced for frontal view by the artist.
